3: 26 July 2018 Newfoundland Cupids to Trinity Bay
26 July 2018 Cupids to Trinity Bay
Hiked outside of Cupids today for a couple of hours and then drove three hours further west to Trinity Bay. You should check Google Earth to see where we are. The unheralded Burnt Head Trail hike just outside of Cupids knocked us out it was so stunning.
The drive was miles and miles of rolling forest, fog, lakes and, other than a gas station, almost nothing else. Hwy 1 is Newfoundland's leg of the Trans Canadian Highway and it is just about the only road around. Brutal fog first half of the trip and then real honest to goodness sunshine. Arrived in the very beautiful village of Trinity Bay around 2 where we'll stay for two nights. Tomorrow we'll day trip up to Bonavista and Ellis to find Maria's favorite bird - the Puffin. I am out of superlatives to describe the beauty of Newfoundland's coast.
The innkeeper gave us a DVD of "The Shipping News" which was a best seller about a lost soul getting his act together in a small Newfoundland village. Apparently the film was shot nearby. We just finished watching it a few minutes ago. I liked the book but had forgotten how lousy the film was. Maria and I are surprised any one here would recommend it since it didn't put a shine on Newfoundland. But the film didn't take the luster off our very good day.
